The Bay City Lioness Club continues its proud history of service to others.

Chartered January 12, 1985, this club has donated over $70,000 to many worthy endeavors. Through fundraisers at the Bay City Rice Festival and The Little Mister and Miss Contest, bake sales, and junior high dances, a small group of very dedicated ladies commit themselves to funding a projects budget that in year 2000 totals $8,800.00.

Those funds are given to support The American Cancer Society in their Relay for Life, the Matagorda County Services effort, and the Bay City Service Center.

The Lioness Club annually supports the Texas Lions Camp so that handicapped youngsters have the opportunity to enjoy summer camp. The Club donates to the Matagorda County Child Protective Services Christmas campaign and the Texas Department of Human Services Aged and Disabled Program.

The Bay City Lioness Club sponsors $1500 in scholarships each year. It began the large print book program at the Bay City Library and contributes $1500 each year to its growth.

Since conservation of sight has been a Lions and Lioness project since the inception of this service organization, the Lioness Club dedicates $1500 of its annual budget to buying eyeglasses and paying eye exam bills for individuals needing them but unable to afford the cost.

Literacy Volunteers of America, the Matagorda County Fair Association Calf Scramble, Bay City Babe Ruth Baseball League, and Project Graduation also receive funds from the Bay City Lioness Club.

All money from fundraisers is given in service projects. To fund the administrative costs of the club, Lioness members pay $20 annual dues. The cost for dues and meals is $35 per quarter.

Lioness Clubs meeetings are 12:00 noon, at the Bay City Country Club on the first and third Wednesdays each month.
