Raffle Tickets for a Kawasaki jet ski are on sale for $25 each or 5 for $115.  Proceeds will help BCHS grad Haley Turner compete in a Las Vegas beauty pageant.  Call 245-2625 for a ticket purchase.

Prepared childbirth classes will begin Tuesday, July 2 through July 30.  Classes are on Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. at Matagorda General Hospital.  Total cost for the classes is $40.  To register, or for more information contact Linda Ely at 241-6607.

The Bay City Rotary Club is bringing Jerry Jeff Walker, with Bill Pekar opening, to Bay City on August 23 for their 2002 annual event at the Bay City Civic Center.  Concert tickets are available at The Main Street Coffee Bar at 1822 Seventh St. or by phone at 979-245-4105.  Individual tickets, if available, may be purchased at the door.

The Monthly Life After Loss support group sponsored by Hospice Support Care is scheduled from 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2 at the First United Methodist Church in Wharton.  The program, "Is Age a Factor in Grief?" will be presented by Pat Matthes, LMSW, Professional Education Liaison Hospice Support Care.  For more information, call 578-0314.

Listen to the tale of Cynthia Ann Parker from 10:45-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2 at the Bay City Public Library.  It's the story of a nine-year-old girl who was kidnapped by the Comanche Indians.  Also, help solve the mystery of the disappearance of the Texas Indians.  Hear Native American Ray Olachia's presentation on Indian life and customs.

The July Plantation Quilting Guild meeting will be help at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 9 at the First Presbyterian Church in Like Jackson.  The program will be "Tales of Designing Friends" with guest speaker Vicki McGowan.  Contact Diana Mulloy at 299-3390 for more information.

The Memory Makers Quilt Guild meets the last Wednesday of each month at 9:30 am in the Multi-purpose building at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds on Nichols Road in Bay City.  This month's meeting is June 26 and features a program called "Basting Party" that will introduce the newest and quickest methods to baste quilts.  Guests and new members welcome.  Contact Margaret Byrd at (979) 245-8799 for more information or to purchase tickets for the raffle quilt.

The Bay City Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Market Days on the Bay City downtown square.  Dates on the square include June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21, Oct. 19, and Nov. 16.  The Market Days of Dec. 21 will be held in the Bay City Civic Center.  For more information, call 979-245-8333.

The Bay City Blackcat All-Sports Booster Club is currently having its annual membership drive.  The club supports all boys and girls sports, and gave $10,800 in scholarships last year.  Memberships range from $15 to $100.  For more information, call 979-245-5141.

Teen Court is looking for volunteers the first second and third Tuesday of each month.  Teen Court meets from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bay City Municipal Court Building on 6th Street.  For more information contact B. J. Wise at 979-245-1401.

The Bay City Evening Lions Club is seeking new members.  The club meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at Cattleman's Restaurant.  If you are interested in becoming a member of Lions, contact Helen Wagner at 979-244-1777.

The Matagorda County Alzheimer's Family Care and Share Group meet at 6:30 p.m. in Conference Room A at Matagorda General Hospital.  This support group is free and open to the public.  This group meets the first Monday of each month.  For more information about Alzheimer's disease, contact Jan Sims at 979-241-6877.

The Crisis Center needs your tax-deductible donations for its resale shop.  Proceeds from the resale shop to go to help maintain the shelter and also help clothe those in need.  Donations may be brought by 2805 4th St., Bay  City, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Monday through Friday.  All items must be in good usable condition.

Our Lady Of Guadalupe Church is hosting the annual parish fiesta on Sunday, July 14, starting at 11 a.m.  Food booths, live music, Mexican food, bingo and other entertainment will be featured.

The Methodist, Presbyterian and Episcopal churches of Palacios will hold a combined Vacation Bible School from 6-8:30 p.m. July 15-19 at the First United Methodist Church.  Children will explore the life of David.  They will also learn life-changing lessons from God's Word through Bible stories, games, tasty treats, Bible point crafts and collectible Bible Bugs.  For more information, call the Methodist Church office at 361-972-3031.

The Bay City Public Library will waive all fines for people who provide a donation of pet food and cages, and medical supplies to Cherie Allen, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator from Bay City.  A complete list of items needed can be obtained by calling the library at 979-245-6931.

The Bay City Youth Football Association is hosting a junior high dance on July 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Bay City Service Center.  Admission is $3.

The Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, through its Educational Activities Committee, is offering a scholarship to help a student complete a degree in education.  To be eligible, an applicant must currently be a college junior, beginning the senior year in September 2002 and working toward a degree in education.  Application deadline is July 8. Registration applications are being accepted for the Texas Lions Camp Summer Camp 2002.  Activities include swimming, boating, music, sports, horseback riding, photography and much much more.  The Texas Lions Camp, open to children ages 8 to 15 with disabilities, is located in Kerrville.  For more information, call 979-245-3329.

The Texas Gospel Music Barn is hosting a series of gospel concerts at the Railroad Depot in Bay City.  Shows this year include:  July 20, Gospel Express; Sept. 21, Peacemakers; Nov. 16, Relations Quartet.  Admission is free.

The Victoria College Continuing Education Department is offering a variety of courses for the months of July and August.  Please call 361-582-2528 for registration deadlines and more detailed information.  Classes are available in air conditioning, computers, emergency medical profession services, employment essentials and conversational sign language.

The Victoria College will hold registration for fall 2002 courses in July and August.  Early registration restricted for both day and evening classes will be held July 17 & 18 from 8:15 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.  Students whose last names begin with letters H-O register on Wednesday, July 17, and P-Z on Thursday, July 18.  Early registration-restricted is for students who were enrolled during the spring or summer sessions I and/or II.  Registration begins in the Admissions and Records Office in the Administration Building.  Fore more information about registration call 361-572-6408.

The Victoria College will be holding summer orientation for beginning college freshmen and transfer students with fewer than 15 semester credit hours.  Two of the two-day sessions currently have seats available:  July 24-25 and July 29-30.  Students who attend the entire session both days will receive Participants will become acquainted with the campus, facilities, administrators, faculty, staff and course offerings.  Other session topics include information about the college catalog, college policies, majors, financial aid, university transfer information, and Victoria College certificate and degree requirements.  On the second day of each orientation session, students may register for fall classes.  To register for summer orientation, stop by the Counseling Services Office in the Administration BU9ilding or call 361-572-6405.
