The Memory Makers Quilt Guild meets the last Wednesday of each month at 9:30 am in the Multi-purpose building at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds on Nichols Road in Bay City.  This month's meeting is June 26 and features a program called "Basting Party" that will introduce the newest and quickest methods to baste quilts.  Guests and new members welcome.  Contact Margaret Byrd at (979) 245-8799 for more information or to purchase tickets for the raffle quilt.

The Bay City Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Market Days on the Bay City downtown square.  Dates on the square include June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21, Oct. 19, and Nov. 16.  The Market Days of Dec. 21 will be held in the Bay City Civic Center.  For more information, call 979-245-8333.

The Bay City Blackcat All-Sports Booster Club is currently having its annual membership drive.  The club supports all boys and girls sports, and gave $10,800 in scholarships last year.  Memberships range from $15 to $100.  For more information, call 979-245-5141.

Teen Court is looking for volunteers the first second and third Tuesday of each month.  Teen Court meets from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bay City Municipal Court Building on 6th Street.  For more information contact B. J. Wise at 979-245-1401.

The Victoria College Continuing Education Department is offering a variety of courses for the months of July and August.  Please call 361-582-2528 for registration deadlines and more detailed information.  Classes are available in air conditioning, computers, emergency medical profession services, employment essentials and conversational sign language.

The Victoria College will hold registration for fall 2002 courses in July and August.  Early registration restricted for both day and evening classes will be held July 17 & 18 from 8:15 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.  Students whose last names begin with letters H-O register on Wednesday, July 17, and P-Z on Thursday, July 18.  Early registration-restricted is for students who were enrolled during the spring or summer sessions I and/or II.  Registration begins in the Admissions and Records Office in the Administration Building.  Fore more information about registration call 361-572-6408.

The Bay City Evening Lions Club is seeking new members.  The club meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at Cattleman's Restaurant.  If you are interested in becoming a member of Lions, contact Helen Wagner at 979-244-1777.

The Matagorda County Alzheimer's Family Care and Share Group meet at 6:30 p.m. in Conference Room A at Matagorda General Hospital.  This support group is free and open to the public.  This group meets the first Monday of each month.  For more information about Alzheimer's disease, contact Jan Sims at 979-241-6877.

The Crisis Center needs your tax-deductible donations for its resale shop.  Proceeds from the resale shop to go to help maintain the shelter and also help clothe those in need.  Donations may be brought by 2805 4th St., Bay  City, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Monday through Friday.  All items must be in good usable condition.

Project Rio is an employment service program specifically for ex-offenders.  The Texas Workforce in cooperation with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Texas Youth Commission provides special services designed to reintegrate ex-offenders into the workforce.  Project Rio provides incentives and benefits to employers who hire ex-offenders.  For more information on Project Rio contact Kay Roberts at Gulf Coast Careers, 3501 Ave. F in Bay City, or call 979-245-4808, Ext. 205.

The Matagorda County Crime Stoppers needs the public's help in solving crimes.  Anyone with information about a crime in Matagorda County is asked to call 979-244-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-299-BUST (2878).  Information leading to a felony arrest and/or a grand jury indictment may earn the caller a cash reward.  Callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to give their names.

Take Off Pounds Sensible, a weight-reduction and education class for men and women, meets at the Bay City Service Center each Monday from 4 to 6 p.m.

The Bay City Youth Football Association is sponsoring a junior high dance on Aug. 9 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the bay City Service Center.  Admission is $3.  DJ music provided by Danny Gonzales.  Refreshments and pizza will be served.

The 4-H Clubs of Matagorda County will hold their annual 4-H Awards Banquet on Aug. 13 starting at 7. p.m. at the Matagorda Fire Hall in Matagorda.  For more information, call 979-245-4100.

The Matagorda County Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding the following health and safety courses for August:  Adult CPR on Aug. 13, and First Aid Basics on Aug. 27.  These classes will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 1909 Peach St. in Bay City.  For more information, call 979-245-3056.

The Art League of Bay City is reorganizing.  All art enthusiasts are welcome.  All meetings will be held the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the dining room of the Bay City Service Center.  The first meeting will be held Sept. 10.  For more information, call 979-245-9223.

Teen Blast-off Committees are currently signing up booth participants for the Teen Fair on Aug. 9.  Booth space is free for any groups who work with teens and would like to participate.  More than 1.000 participants are expected.  Booths are available for fund-raising activities, membership drives, distribution of materials, or other.  Any individual or group interested in booth space or more information about this county-wide teen event may contact the Bay City Chamber of Commerce at 979-245-8333 or call the Matagorda County United Way office at 245-5852.
