100% Health Access-Zero Health Disparities Campaign
United Way of America (UWA) is working with government and foundation
partners to improve access to healthcare and eliminate health disparities.
As part of this effort, UWA has joined the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
and other national organizations for Cover the Uninsured Week
(http://www.coveringtheuninsured.org),
a major effort to establish the issue
of the uninsured as a top national priority and to encourage the nation to
seek solutions for the more than 41 million Americans who have no health
insurance.
As part of this public awareness campaign, a weeklong series of national and
local events that will take place coast to coast from March 10 through March
16, 2003. Local United Ways are planning diverse activities in collaboration
with hospitals, universities, churches and community-based organizations
across the country. Check back for local activities.
This national initiative complements United Way of America's 100% Health
Access-Zero Health Disparities Campaign which aims to improve healthcare
access to all Americans. The 100% Health Access Campaign is a key strategy
for advancing our new mission: " to build a stronger America by mobilizing
our communities to improve people's lives." The 100% Health Access Campaign
is a community-based movement that calls into action local communities to
come together and develop local solutions. Through the 100% Health Access
Campaign, United Way of America mobilizes and supports United Way members in
convening and engaging local leadership coalitions, and improving healthcare
access for everyone.
